Almost all of the park has remained “in the French style”. It is planted with oaks, ash, chestnut trees and hornbeams, all species which are native to the region, and across it runs a star-shaped grid of paths offering wonderful vistas and, where they intersect, there were once clearings with cabinets de verdure, if the 18th century plans are to be believed. Part of the park was converted to the English style in the early 19th century, allowing the creation of a lake and the introduction of a number of tree species which were new at the time, including cedars and horse chestnuts.
